Studio Skills: THE KILN

A$65.00

Where do I put it?

How do I ventilate it? Can I work near it while it’s on?

How do I pack the kiln? How long will it take?

When can I open it again?

What do I do with the kiln wash that they gave me?

My shelves are looking a little worse for wear … how do I revive them?

You’ve done some short courses or taken some workshops. You’ve been sucked into the big wide ceramics world. And now you want to learn about kilns…. This session is by no means a comprehensive guide to kilns but it will give you a basic overview of electric kilns and how to work safely with them.

Let’s hang out in my studio for a pot or two of tea and I’ll try to answer some of these questions. We can work through some basics to get you started with packing and firing a kiln. And we can pull on my experience over the last 10 years working in a variety of studios with different types of electric kilns to help us (front loader, top loader, single phase, three phase, small, pretty big …).

What will the session cover?

  • Some basic safety considerations

  • How to pack a kiln for a bisque firing and for a glaze firing

  • Kiln shelf maintenance

What will you leave with?

  • Confidence to start packing your own kilns

  • A workbook to use when packing your kiln

Plus! We will have time for some Q&A’s and group discussions.

This session is part three of my Studio Skills series.
All sessions are held in my studio on Kaurna Country, Honeysuckle Lane, Prospect

Thursday 26th June from 6:00 - 7:30pm.
